We recommend two companies in particular for their professional service, high quality equipment and exceptionally good value. In addition, both companies give Ski Basics’ customers a substantial discount when booking online in advance.
At Ski Basics we strongly advise you to order your ski equipment prior to your holiday. Not only will this maximise your all-important ski time but also secure you substantial discounts of up to 35%.
However, if you do prefer to wait until you reach Meribel, a Ski Basics manager will visit you and will discuss your exact ski hire needs with you.
The North Face Meribel
Renting equipment has long had the stigma of being ‘a hassle’. Staff at The North Face are trying to alter this impression. As a Ski Basics guest you will be offered a generous discount (from already very reasonable prices) if you pre-order online; for those who hire their equipment in-resort there are also significant reductions.
Whatever your level, the friendly English staff will tailor the gear to your exact needs. They stock a huge variety of equipment, from children’s skis, boots and helmets to advanced ski and snowboard gear, with brands such as Scott, K2 and Salomon. Keen skiers and boarders themselves, they will always give helpful advice on current snow conditions and which equipment will best suit your style and ability.
The huge store (which also houses a great range of North Face clothing and accessories) is handily located in Meribel Centre, however they will happily collect you from your chalet and return you there afterwards. Or, if you prefer to ski direct from the shop, they will drop you at the slopes and your shoes back to your chalet. That way you are guaranteed an excellent and hassle-free service, and you can get onto the snow as soon as possible! The staff also know that snow conditions change and people like to experiment. Not a problem! You’re welcome to change rental equipment any number of times during your stay.

Tips & advice
Ski Lockers
It is definitely worth considering hiring a ski locker for the
duration of your holiday. You can avoid carrying your skis
back to the chalet each evening, particularly useful if you
are planning to do a spot of shopping in Meribel Centre after
skiing!
Lockers are located under the Saulire bubble at La Chaudanne and can hold 3 sets of skis and boots. They are charged at approx. €45 per week and can be reserved in advance without a deposit.
Freeride
Freeride provides superior service and great quality equipment bought to you in the comfort of your chalet.
Freeride do offer an early booking discount for Ski Basics guests and will also reduce prices on in-resort hire at both Freeride and its sister shop Sport 2000.
If you pre-order your equipment it will be waiting for you at the chalet when you arrive and a Freeride ski technician will visit to ensure all is well and make any necessary changes. They stock a large range of equipment, including a new range of adult helmets for your safety. You can swap your equipment during your holiday by contacting the mobile service or by calling into the rental shop which is easily accessible by the Chaudanne lift area. At the end of your stay simply leave your skis in the chalet and they will be collected by one of the Freeride staff.
If you have not pre-booked, they also offer a minibus service to collect you from the chalet and take you to the shop to be kitted out.
